For several years now constipation and diarrhea have been dueling in my digestive system.  I get constipated when I travel and diarrhea takes over my life when I am under stress.  My only conclusion is that I suffer from IBS or irritable bowel syndrome.  even after adding a lot more fiber to my diet my symptoms still continue. but for the millions of IBS sufferers like myself there is hope thanks to a new proven diet program that genuinely works.

The FODMAP elimination diet which was developed in Australia, has helped thousands of individuals with IBS eliminate their symptoms.  In the book, IBS complimentary at Last! change Your Carbs, change Your Life (second edition) registered dietitian and nutrition therapist Patsy Catsos describes the FODMAP concept, “FODMAP is the acronym for Fermentable Oligo-, Di, and Mono-saccharides and Polyols… FODMAP carbohydrates include certain natural sugars in foods such as milk, fruit, honey, and high-fructose corn syrup.  FODMAPs also include certain types of fiber in foods such as wheat, onions, garlic and beans.”

FODMAP carbs are not absorbed very well in the small intestine. Bacteria already living in your large intestine love these carbs.  When the bacteria feed off of them they produce a lot of gas.  FODMAPs also act like a sponge and draw and hold excess fluid in the large intestine.

In IBS-Free at Last (second edition) Patsy Catsos describes in a lot more detail about what FODMAPs are and how eliminating them from your diet helps ease IBS symptoms.  I found this book and the tools she supplies very valuable in taking care of my IBS.

IBS-Free at Last (second edition)  includes menus, shopping lists,  label reading ideas and several lists of low- and high FODMAP foods.  I eat a lot of dairy products and dried fruits.  before reading this book I  was not aware that these foods could be contributing to my IBS symptoms.

If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome or any other related intestinal problem you need to read IBS- complimentary at Last! (δεύτερη έκδοση). After trying the diet program detailed in this book for a couple of weeks I observed a major decrease in my IBS symptoms. You can purchase this book in paperback or Kindle format on Amazon.com.

*Disclosure: I received a copy of IBS complimentary at Last! second edition in exchange for this review.  All opinions are accurate and 100% mine.
